WebFeb 26, 2014 · The area of Fort Gatlin was settled in 1843 by the Jernigan family. Aaron and Issac Jernigan built a log house on 1,200 acres on the west shore of Lake Holden and brought 700 head of cattle, two African American men, and an elderly white man down from Georgia.
